Hawaiian Electric Company: Energizing Strategic Planning with Graphic Facilitation

Hawaiian Electric sought community insights to identify and overcome critical barriers to electrification. Good Juju Supported HECO went across three major islands to collect meaningful input to guide development of strategic plans. Good Juju to design, record , and facilitate these meetings.

CHALLENGE:
You have a plan, but technology and demand is moving faster than expected.

How do you provide flexible, responsive solutions to stakeholders with diverse and evolving needs while operating within legal and regulatory requirements in an industry that is changing faster than traditional planning cycles can keep pace?

SOLUTION:
Just ask.

Meet in person with state agencies, businesses, and consumers on each island.

Hawaiian Electric  Company (HECO) hosted 3 sessions across three major islands to understand the unique perspectives of key stakeholders  including state agencies, corporate and business groups and community organizations, to expand and improve electrification of transportation (EoT,) on each island.

These sessions focused on three key areas: stakeholder and community appetite for EoT, barriers to electrification that each island faced and suggestions to help create greater equity in EoT.

The Good Juju Co. designed the meetings, templates, and facilitation process with a focus on uncovering answers in these key areas, encouraging discussion, recording practical solutions, and empowering participants to share their ideas. Live-drawn graphic recordings during each session gave HECO detailed physical and virtual artifacts to guide their Electrification of Transportation (EoT) Strategic Roadmap 2.0 (Click here to see plan) and inform future community meetings.
