The Native Hawaiian Education Council - Organization Vision & Mission Map

A storymap to help clarify complex information and alleviate confusion. The Native Hawaiian Education Council (NHEC) faced challenges with public confusion regarding its role as a voice and representative for Native Hawaiians to federal policymakers and funders. While NHEC does not directly deliver on-the-ground programming, it advocates on behalf of Native Hawaiian education in Washington to secure funding and drive policies that promote educational advancement.

This storymap helps both constituents and legislators better understand NHEC’s mission, structure, and operational constraints in supporting and developing Native Hawaiian education in the following ways:

  • Inform and guide grantees, ensuring they understood the specific support and resources NHEC provides.
  • Educate and engage Native Hawaiians, helping them understand how NHEC can support them and why their involvement would directly benefit their communities.
  • Onboard and orient new council members, fostering a shared understanding of the council’s mission and their individual roles.
